Christmas tree care

All of our Christmas trees are hand picked, selected and cut fresh. We believe the key to a quality Christmas tree is to have it cut as close to your chosen delivery date as possible, so you are getting the freshest tree possible.

Planning Ahead For Your Delivery

It should be remembered that one of the worst enemies of any real Christmas tree is central heating. If you can locate the tree away from any heat source such as a radiator, fire or warm lights, then this will help to prevent the tree from loosing moisture from its needles and should make the tree last longer and look fresher.

On Delivery Of Your Christmas Tree

After your tree is delivered it should be kept outside in a cool place (with the net on so you can get it into the house!) standing in water until it is required indoors.   Before bringing the tree indoors cut about half an inch off the stump in order to open the pores of the tree, this allows it to drink the water it requires to stay fresh. Also outside bang the bottom of the  tree on the ground to remove any needles which the tree naturally sheds through out its life. For best results and ease of putting your tree up, mount it in a water holding christmas tree stand. Avoid placing the tree near direct heat as this will dry the tree out and can cause needle drop. Keep the container topped up with water every day- do not let it dry out. You will be surprised how much water a Christmas tree needs!

Watering

You should treat a Christmas tree as you would treat fresh cut flowers in the home.  Water is essential to keeping the tree looking healthy over the Christmas period, even low needle drop trees will require watering.  A Christmas tree can drink up to a pint of water a day.  You can buy one of our Christmas tree stands which provides an ideal way of keeping your tree watered with the minimum amount of mess!

Summary

  • Decide on a good placement for the tree. The tree must never be placed near a heat source.
  • Keep outside in a cool place in a bucket of water until you need it.
  • Make a new cut on the bottom of the tree (remove 1/2 inch to 1 inch).
  • Bang the bottom of the tree of the ground to remove any needles which the tree naturally sheds through out its life.
  • Place the tree in a christmas tree stand that holds water.
  • Only remove the netting once the tree is in place indoors.
  • Maintain the tree throughout the season by checking the water level twice a day in the beginning. After about one week, the tree will drink less water.
  • Avoid placing the tree near a fire, radiator or warm lighting (any direct heat source) as it will dry out with the potential effect of causing needle drop or drooping branches.
